Drug Costs Petition
Dear Member of Congress,
I work on the frontlines of ourhealthcare system as a healthcare worker and am alarmed by theescalating cost of prescription drugs, a growing crisis for ourpatients and for our entire system of care. Here are the disturbingfacts:
- Drug companies spend at least $25 billion per year marketing to doctors. This figure has more than doubled over the past 10 years.
- These costs are passed on to consumers – this $25 billion is built in to the cost of every drug we buy.
- Published evidence clearly shows that targeted marketing can shifts doctors toward higher cost and sometimes less-safe drugs.
Assomeone who sees my patients struggle to afford the live-saving drugsthey need, I ask that you act swiftly to ensure that prescription drugsare more affordable and accessible, and stop drug companies fromcontrolling the market.
I urge you to sign onto the PhysicianPayments Sunshine Act (S. 2029 and HR 5605), which will require muchstronger disclosure of the incredible amount of money that drugcompanies spend marketing to doctors.
Thank you,
The Undersigned
