Juneteenth Voter Registration Kickoff (Juneteenth Events)
Nurses, Doctors and Healthcare Workers to Mark Juneteenth with National Voter Registration Drive “Make Every Voice Heard” Events Aimed at Addressing Healthcare Disparities Orlando, Florida - Healthcare United Florida is hosting a Juneteenth event this Thursday, June 19th. Nurses and healthcare workers will be registering at the Florida Hospital Orlando in a first step toward increasing voter participation and “making every voice heard” on the issue of healthcare disparities. Also in attendance will be State Representatives Scott Randolph and Darren Soto and Alexander Barrio aide to State Representative Tony Sasso’s office. Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when African slaves in Galveston, Texas, learned that the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued. Today, it's an annual holiday, observed on June 19th, and celebrated by many African American communities. Studies and reports document that people of color and those with lower incomes are in poorer health, experience more significant problems accessing care, are far more likely to be uninsured, and often receive lower quality healthcare than other patients.
